David James and Richard Dunne were immense today.

Be interesting to see how long Robben's out for because they seem to struggle for goals, or as many as usual, without him.

Robbie Fowler wants to take a page from Richard Dunne's book.

Does anyone remember why Boston were deducted points this season?

I thought they were deducted points last season, and not this. Anyway, it was for financial irregularities.....not for tapping up players as I think you wanted to suggest.

Yeah, just checked, it was last season. They didn't tap up players, but they got done for illegal payments to agents, back handers and such and such.

Fucking quality save by James in the 94th minute, I thought he got lucky with a few of the earlier rebounds that he almost gave away though.

Also LOL @ Southampton, I just knew Bent was gonna score there

James's save was fucking quality. Such a fantastic shot stopper if only he wasn't so prone to rediculous fuck ups.

And yeah they love Dunne at Citeh, they were singing about him quite a bit.

Pleased that us or Citeh didn't sing the Matt Busby song, what with it being the aniversary of the crash on the day we played them, added to the fact we sung about Hitler gassing the jews the other week, I really thought one of us would .

Crewe's fans were the first (to my knowledge) to taunt us about the ground share, singing "YOU'RE NOT LEICESTER ANYMORE". Other than that they were shit though.

Crewe are rediculous, they are 8 points from playoffs, and they sell the top striker in the league, who was winning games for them for the whole season, they have no replacement whatsoever and now they are shit again. You cant tell me Dario couldnt keep Ashton for another 4 months?

Not just that, Why did he go Norwich, who are going down anyway, when he could have gone tottenham where he would have got just as much first team action?

rant over, I just dont like seeing my local team fuck up.

I just caught the tail end of a conversation on Talk Sport. Thought they said it was for tapping players.

I don't think they should deduct Chelsea points anyway. I don't want any excuses when we win the championship

Looks like England will be playing that 4-5-1/4-3-3 formation tonight, Wright-Phillips on the right, Rooney down the left and Owen up front. Becks, Lampard and Gerrard in midfield and then the rest pretty much picks itself, Gary Neville and Ashley Cole at the back with Carragher and Brown, as they're the only one's who are fit. Probably Robinson in goal.

Greece think only of victory
Wednesday, 9 February 2005
Tickets are on sale for the 2006 FIFA World Cup finals, but as European qualifying resumes tonight, continental champions Greece face a tough task if their fans are to have a team to watch in Germany.

Denmark visit Greece
Barely months after their UEFA EURO 2004™ triumph in June, Greece began their Group 2 campaign with defeat in Albania and draws with Turkey and Ukraine. In November they beat Kazakhstan 3-1, but still only lie fifth ahead of their meeting with second-placed Denmark in Piraeus.

We are only thinking about victory - there is no other result in our mind
Otto Rehhagel
'Difficult match'
Denmark are unbeaten, and if they win will be four points ahead of Greece with a game in hand. Home coach Otto Rehhagel, whose side overcame a similarly slow start to EURO 2004™ qualifying, is well aware of the importance of the encounter, saying: "We have a very difficult match ahead and we must lift our performance considerably in order to achieve the win. We are only thinking about victory - there is no other result in our mind."

Duo out
However, centre-back Michalis Kapsis has a back problem and striker Dimitrios Papadopoulos a thigh strain, leaving both sidelined. Sotirios Kyrgiakos and Konstantinos Katsouranis are vying for Kapsis's regular starting berth.

Olsen bullish
Denmark themselves are without injured defenders Martin Laursen, Thomas Helveg and Claus Jensen while winger Jesper Grønkjær is suspended. Despite those absences, coach Morten Olsen, who has lured Per Nielsen out of international retirement for the match, said: "I think you have a better chance of a result when you have an experienced team - where all players have been there before and know the way you play - and that is what we have."

Beckham is having a good season and has been England's inspiration in the past. Form is temporary, class is permanent, and Beckham's international class isn't in doubt. I'd have replaced him at Euro 2004 when he was looking unfit and jaded, but he's got to be given every chance to find his form for England again.

People think all you have to do is stick an in-form Premiership player in a national team and he'll suddenly be able to cope with international football. Look at the state of Wright-Phillips tonight against a second string Holland side: he was shit, from what I saw.

Mind you, I was watching the Ireland game mainly. Andy Reid was brilliant, and Duff tortured them. I'm confident for the games against Israel. If we can get 6 points out of those, I'm certain we'll qualify. I'd be happy enough with 4, though. Israel will be tricky to play out there. At home, I fancy us against any side in the world.

The quality of Duff's crossing is something else. No tricks like Ronaldo kept trying all night, just worms past defenders and sticks in fantastic crosses. Robbie Keane should really have notched a goal. Good win, though, in a pretty well contested game.

Brian Keff plays friendlies just right. He sticks with his first choice side and bloods one or two players who are on the fringes of the 11, without fucking the system around or plugging anyone into a position they don't play. He made 4 or 5 changes tonight without the shape changing at all, really.

Sven just seems to pay lip service to Premiership form by handing out caps to every Tom, Dick and Player of the Month. Also, Owen Hargreaves is fucking terrible.

Wright-Phillips wasn't that bad overall. Made a couple of jinking runs. There were worse players on the pitch.

Andy Jonhson, for one. England have four better strikers, there's no real point in playing him unless we're riddled with injuries. Especially on the right, where he looked like Christian Bassedas' mongy nan. I'm sure Sven only brought him on there because he realised he wasn't even going to get a chance up front and felt sorry for him.

Well they won. Ole ole ole ole Hellas Hellas

The goals were scored in the first half by KING THEO ZAGORAKIS (first international goal) and a penalty from Angelos Basinas. Poor defending and lack of communication up the back from Nikopolidis gifted Denmark a goal in first half injury time and the 2-1 scoreline remained for the rest of the game. From the highlights we were absolutely outstanding in the first half and should have buried Denmark but were a bit sloppy in the second period and had to rely on some decent saves by Nikopolidis to grind out the win.

The win promotes us to 2nd in Group 2, with a game in hand over Ukraine who are in first place. They had a 0-2 win over Albania and are 6 points ahead of Greece now. The advantage we have is that we have already played them away from home and we managed with a decent result, a 1-1 draw having come from a goal down. So we have Ukraine at home for the return fixture and if we win that game we'll close them up. Next game up for Greece is next month away to Georgia then a home game against Albania. We really (and must) win these games convincingly and set ourselves up to finish at the very least in 2nd spot. Still, we have yet to play Denmark and Turkey away so it will be difficult.

Just quietly, recently whenever we've had Collina as the referee we've always won (Euro 2004, Denmark game). Good omen, UEFA should keep him reffing our games for the rest of the campaign.

Naw I think he was on the bench. Nikopolidis is first choice keeper, though I heard he was a bit clumsy and his bugger-up was the result of Denmark's goal to pull them back to 2-1. Luckily we held on for the important win.

Wright-Phillips wasn't that great really, but he was worth the chance. Pretty annoyed at Sven for playing Johnson out of position though, but, again, he was worth a game given his form. Pretty dull game in all, only positives were Wes Brown and Carragher at the back.
