Football Talk 2004/2005

On the advice of Paranoid Rattlesnake, I've started a new thread for this.

Just that this topic is taking the piss now

I'd do it but I don't want people saying we've already got a topic

Also, instead of calling it "Premiership Talk", I called it "Football Talk", so as to include MMM, Wengerland etc.

Continue discussing.

The Mask 06-14-2004 07:39 AM

you're going to have all the yanks getting confused now, poor darlings.

toxic rooster 06-14-2004 07:41 AM

So what should I do, change it to "soccer talk"?

<marquee direction=right></marquee>

Paranoid Rattlesnake 06-14-2004 07:42 AM

We've already got one of these threads, What the hell did you think you where doing.

:shifty:

The Mask 06-14-2004 07:46 AM

I'm looking forward to this one, cause if history has it's way, we should win this time round.

toxic rooster 06-14-2004 07:56 AM

Are you making light of our inability to defend our title?

Or the fact that we'll probably win the Com Shield, which a team has never won the Premiership after winning in like 190742184259072905723 years?

Or the fact that we're shedding all of our B grade strikers, and if Henry gets injured we're screwed?

The Mask 06-14-2004 08:48 AM

probably, yes.

Cactus Sid 06-14-2004 10:22 AM

Everyone knows its Liverpool's year.

Dazz 06-14-2004 12:28 PM

Hey Tony, no one cares about Everton.

Dazz 06-14-2004 12:56 PM

Oh I just realised I can talk about South American Football here, anyone watch the Copa Liberdatores? Boca played River Plater in the semi finals, well, I was knackered so I recorded it and have only watched the first half. The ref sent off THREE players in the first half, one of them was kinda a sending off, one was a booking (Gallardo), and one guy (the Boca guy) did nothing at all and got sent off. Gallardo tripped up the Boca player (Cincardi or something) and the Cincardi got up and squared up to him, Gallardo didn't exactly go for a headbutt but I suppose it could have been veiwed as that, so he should have got a booking for it, and the ref ran over at this point and sent them both off. Then there was a BIG ruck where Boca and River plate officials came on the pitch, Boca's keeper got punched round the back of the head and scratched a few times in the face, this River Plate coach was on the floor for like five minutes after being punched, it was pretty funny to watch.

The season hasn't even got going yet. Wait until we kill off the Euro 2004 and last seasons Premiership thread first.

Wengerland 06-14-2004 03:24 PM

Yeah, just use this for predicting and stuff until Euro 2004 has finished.

Mr. Monday Morning 06-14-2004 03:53 PM

So is Joachim :'(

Forest are pricing Williams out of that move here, the bastards. They're said to want a minimum of about £3 million, and would expect that if it went to a tribunal.

Radzinski has had a transfer request rejected too.

Rob Ban Fan 06-14-2004 04:57 PM

<font face=verdana size=3 color="#ff6600">would they get that if you took it to a tribunal though? Because that sounds like a huge amount.

When we signed Matty Taylor Luton kicked up a big fuss and we took it to a tribunal and got him for £400,000 rising depending on appearances. And we just signed Jamie Ashdown from Reading and it looks like they're only going to get around £250,000 compensation for him.</font>

Oxstar 06-15-2004 03:01 AM

Who reckons Crystal Palace will avoid relegation? I think we're going down but I can keep my fingers crossed and hope we survive.

toxic rooster 06-15-2004 03:17 AM

I think Norwich will stay up, and maybe West Brom.

I think Palace have no chance, sorry oxstar :(

Also, CHANGE YOUR AVATAR RBF :'(

This was Paranoid Rattlesnake's idea, not mine.

Rob Ban Fan 06-15-2004 03:12 PM

<font face=verdana size=3 color="#ff6600">I personally think West Brom are the most likely to stay up from what ive seen so far. You cant reall say until you see who everyone buys but right now West Brom seem to be tightening up the defence plus they also have experience on their side after their previous season in the premiership. They also seem to realise this time that they need to buy to have a chance.

Most Norwich fans from what ive seen seem to think they just need a couple of players and it'll be enough to keep them up. They all seem happy with the Bentley signing and along with Huckerby and Green think they have a good chance. While Bentley could be a decent signing, he's in experienced and Pennant, who is better wasn't enough to keep Leeds up even with their better players.

Even if Huckerby did score a few in div 1, i still dont think he's good enough for the premiership. And while Green may be a good young keeper, look at how Matt Murray did when he played. So they'll need a lot more than that.</font>

LK 06-17-2004 05:22 PM

Palace don't have achance of staying up. Norwich will need to sign some more Premiership quality players because people like Huckerby are just good 1st division players. I also think that West Brom will go down unless they also sign more quality players. But then again they will have experience and they will realise that they have to spend to stay up so maybe they will be alright. As far as the winners of the Premiership is concerned Manchester United will win the title back. BTW I have serious doubts about Leeds United coming back to the Premiership in just one season.

toxic rooster 06-17-2004 07:52 PM

Leeds are screwed, nobody's denying that.

I said it once, I'll say it again - it's worrying me that we've let Wiltord, Kanu and Bentley leave (well Bentley is coming back, but you get the idea).

I'm not sure if Jeffers or Pennant are coming back, but it worries me that in the coming season, we'll be relying on Henry too much for goals. And if he gets injured, we may well be screwed

Skeletor2 06-18-2004 10:58 AM

Newcastle are on the verge of completing a season long loan of Mido from Marseille with the option of buying him later, according to Mido himself on Egyptianplayers.com

It's not worrying, Wiltord and Kanu are shit. Bentley needs to get some experience first where he will play all the time. Jeffers is shit alot of the time, you don't need him, and he dives. You have Henry, Bergkamp, Reyes and Alliediere to get goals, quit trippin, Wenger did the right thing. If you don't win the league it's nothing to do with those transfers you have just mentioned.

Wengerland 06-18-2004 11:32 AM

Plus there's Van Persie aswell, though its likely that Wenger will keep him as a left winger.

Everton want £45 million if they're to sell Rooney.

Works for van Nistelrooy :o. And Ashley Cole, for that matter.

Bergkamp is aging, Reyes is more of an attacking midfielder and Aliadiere is probably a bit underdone - especially when he gets put in the situation of being out for several months with an injury and gets thrown straight back in the deep end, like the FA cup semi-final.

When we threw it away last time, all the doomsayers were crapping on about our over-reliance on Henry. This past season he was deadset on fire, but I can't see his good form lasting another whole season for Arsenal. Backed up with Reyes, Bergkamp and Aliadiere, it worries me.

toxic rooster 06-19-2004 03:01 AM

Trying not to take Arsenal's great form for granted, but it's hard

toxic rooster 06-19-2004 10:08 AM

OK, I know it's a bit off what I was saying, but I'd like some of you guys' views on this.

What is your take on Wenger's selective blindness, the whole "I didn't see the incident" side of things.

I'm not sure that it's such a bad thing as people give him shit for - it prevents him from being in a position to say something stupid.

Thoughts?

Rob 06-19-2004 11:44 AM

He needs thicker glasses.

What the hell are you on about, Reyes is a great attacker, he won you the game Vs Chelsea in the F.A cup and I was more afraid of him then Henry after that, the guy is great. Bergkamp still can produce the magic though, and Alliadiere needs experience which he will get this year.

It's more or less the same thing most managers do. He just uses the same line over and over and over again though and so people have ridiculed him for it (can't say as I blame them).

At least he does speak to the press most of the time instead of throwing a fit when something doesn't go his way *cough*FERGUSON*cough*

As for Reyes, you watch him this coming season. If he plays regularly, he will most likely be awesome now he's had some time to adjust.

Danny Electric 06-19-2004 06:04 PM

Gerrard won't go to Chelsea this season.
If we do badly this season I see both him and Owen leaving for the season after.

Rob 06-19-2004 08:07 PM

If Lampard is talking about it then I'd guess he and Gerrard have spoken so there has to be some truth to it.

I just think that depending on how well we do next season then he will leave. We've got Champions league football, if we go through the qualifying rounds, which might keep him happy for one season.
But if we mess up next season I see him going.

Rob 06-19-2004 08:15 PM

Nah I think a £35 million bid is gonna take him to Chelsea. Owen will probably leave on a Bosman next year.

As a Liverpool fan I'd be upset if Gerrard goes and I hope he doesn't. But if he does then I'd like to applaud him for what he has given to the club.
Not going to be like those idiotic Leeds fans.
