I agree that Tears got some stuff right. Im not trying to say its bad because it isnt. They need clearer vision though and by design theyre choosing to go in the opposite direction. And theyre free to make that choice. There is certainly an audience for it.
That said TotK sales are significantly lower than BotW and i think that is indicative of that sand box zelda was fun, and novel, once. Its not a well they can drink from for 30 years. I beat echoes of wisdom 2 days ago. The dungeons were purposeful and felt really good. Or at least 95%. The overworld is exactly the same "invent some jank" that TotK implemented. Once you get certain OP echoes toward the late-middle/early-late game everything just has one solution in the overworld. Doesnt matter what it is. Use clouds. But when youre doing the more carefully crafted sections it feels pretty good. You feel like youre solving puzzles. Super early game is way too easy though. tl;dr Its not perfect. It has some really good ideas and some good execution but its hit or miss. I think it hits enough that if you find a good deal on a used copy you should nab it. |
