I finally got round to watching the 1985 drama series, Edge of Darkness.

It is about a Yorkshire policeman who investigates the death of his daughter, who is murdered in front of him, which he finds is part of a wider conspiracy involving nuclear waste and the illegal manufacturing of plutonium.

For an 80's series, it is weighty and fairly complex, and it is also somewhat grim and moody. The lead actor, Bob Peck, is fantastic and I'm not sure why he didn't go on to be a star either in British TV or film (though granted, he died of cancer in 1999). Joanne Whalley and Joe Don Baker are also highlights in the show.

I'm not sure if I would put it up there with Brideshead Revisited or The Jewel in the Crown, which are the shows all other 80's productions are judged against, but it is definitely knocking at the door.
