DECEMBER 22, 2003 - Monday Night RAW
Just six days away from Armageddon, and tonight RAW announces the rest of that card. We figure out which two superstars will do battle for the vacant Intercontinental Title, four men will qualify for the Royal Rumble, and long-time rivals will compete in tag-team action! The show opens with a Royal Rumble qualifying match pitting Hurricane against Boss Man. Boss Man has struggled in recent weeks, and tonight was really no exception. He manages to get in a couple of power moves, but Hurricane's speed was just too much, and he puts him away with the Shining Wizard to become the first RAW superstar to advance to the field of 30. Up next is a match that promises to be a technical masterpiece as Lance Storm takes on William Regal! Excellent back-and-forth match ends with Regal taking the cheap way out and landing Power of the Punch for the victory. The World Tag Team Champions the Dudley Boyz are out next for a match with La Resistance, but the titles aren't on the line tonight. The winners of tonight's match will both qualify for next month's Royal Rumble match. The Dudleyz control the early going, cutting Dupree off from his partner. When Grenier finally tags in, he blows an elbow drop, which allows the Dudleyz to take control. Dupree manages to get a tag back in, but eats a 3-D and Bubba Ray and D-Von Dudley are going to the Rumble! Backstage, Rico is just hanging out when he's approached by Val Venis. Venis goes off on him - "Why the hell are you stalking me? Don't you get it? I don't want anything to do with you! Stay the hell away from me!" Rico denies up and down that he had anything to do with Val being assaulted last week, but Val doesn't believe him and storms off. And now the final chapter in what's been the most lackluster feud in all of World Wrestling Entertainment - Goldberg versus Kane. Tonight, there are two prizes at stake - a spot in the Royal Rumble... and your career! That's right, it's an I Quit match, where the winner gets a 1-in-30 shot at a title shot and the loser has to leave WWE! Yet another absolutely shitty match between the two ends when Kane improbably clamps on an ankle lock. Goldberg has no choice but to say the two words that no man ever wants to say, "I quit!" As the fans start to sing "Na na na na," Kane offers Goldberg a "Well, you tried your best" handshake. Goldberg looks at Kane's hand, spits on him, and walks away. In six days, The Rock will face Triple H for the World Title, but tonight both men have picked tag-team partners. H will team with his Evolution mate Batista, while The Rock will face the man who has given Bats more than he can chew the last few weeks - Tommy Dreamer. The Armageddon opponents start the match, but Batista quickly tags in, and Evolution presses their advantage. Dreamer gets the hot tag and piledrives Batista and a big clothesline before Batista strikes him back. Both partners tag back in, and Triple H nails Rock with a neckbreaker, then hooks the tights during the pin and the ref doesn't see it! Cheap win for HHH just days before his title shot, but they're not done! Our first semifinal match in the Intercontinental Title tournament is up next as Chris Jericho (who has defeated Lance Storm and Goldberg to get to this point) takes on Matt Hardy Version 1.0 (who holds victories over Mark Henry, Nova, and Hurricane). All four men brawl up the aisle and to the back. Very good back-and-forth match that the crowd unfortunately wasn't all that into, since both men are heels. As the match winds down, Booker T takes advantage of a distracted referee to lay Jericho out with a steel chair, allowing Matt to hit the Twist of Fate to advance to the title match! Afterwards, Jericho gets the chair away from Booker and hits him with it! "Whoa whoa whoa whoa WHOA!" As Jericho and Batista continue to brawl, Eric Bischoff has come out onto the ramp. "You two are driving me insane! I put all this work into putting together an amazing tournament for the Intercontinental Title, and you two have been sabotaging it from the get-go, just to get your hands on each other! Well, at Armageddon, I'm happy to oblige. But this is it. One man wins, one man loses, and you're done with each other. And to make it more interesting, I'm going to hang a briefcase above the ring. And inside that briefcase is a World Title shot at the Royal Rumble. Whoever can climb that ladder first and pull down the briefcase gets their shot at the title. The loser has to suck it up and move on!" And now to determine Hardy's Armageddon opponent, Rob Van Dam (who has had the toughest road to the Final Four, having defeated Test, Batista, and Christian) faces Shawn Michaels (who has pinned Triple H and Rico to get here). These two put on a pretty good match, but the crowd still really isn't into it. Good back-and-forth match that ends with RVD pulling off the upset with the Five-Star Frogsplash! After the match, HBK goes to congratulate him, but Christian hits the ring and levels him with a chair! HBK manages to fight back and grab a microphone, challenging Christian to a match at Armageddon. It's accepted! Before we go off the air, Eric Bischoff confirms that it will be Rob Van Dam versus Matt Hardy Version 1.0 for the vacant Intercontinental Title at Armageddon! Armageddon is just six days away, and the card is set - The Rock versus Triple H in a Last Man Standing Match for the World Heavyweight Title! The winner will go on to the Royal Rumble to defend the gold against the winner of the Booker T/Chris Jericho Ladder Match! Plus, Rob Van Dam versus Matt Hardy for the Intercontinental Title and Shawn Michaels versus Christian! |

DECEMBER 29, 2003 - Monday Night RAW
One night after Armageddon, it's the last WWE show of 2003! The Rock retained his World Title in a laughable Last Man Standing Match against Triple H while Chris Jericho earned a shot at the gold by climbing the ladder of success to beat Booker T. Matt Hardy Version 1.0 laid claim to the Intercontinental Title by beating Rob Van Dam. And Shawn Michaels proved once again why he is the most exciting superstar on pay-per-view when he defeated Christian. Tonight, three more spots in the Royal Rumble match will be filled, The Rock is planning a championship celebration, and it's champions versus champion as Hardy teams with Christian to take on the Dudley Boyz. We start off with a Royal Rumble qualifying match pitting the runner-up in the Intercontinental Title tournament Rob Van Dam against La Resistance's Rob Conway. RVD dominates the begging of the match with his feet, but Conway manages to take control briefly before taking more kicks. RVD finishes the match with his flying kick off the top rope to become the tenth RAW superstar to qualify for the Rumble. Rico has been the center of controversy (isn't he always?) over the last few weeks as his longtime rival Val Venis has been stalked and attacked on multiple occasions. Tonight, he needs to put speculation aside to focus on the red-hot Nova. He manages to put the distractions behind him early, but it doesn't take the ECW original long to take to the air and take the advantage. Good solid match between two guys on the cusp of really making it in WWE, and Rico looks like he's about to win it with his spinning leg lariat, but Val Venis hits the ring and slams him down and hits the Money Shot. The referee calls for the bell! This ugly business is far from over. Victoria will defend her Women's Title at Royal Rumble against the winner of the following match, but both Trish Stratus and Gail Kim are more anxious to tear each other apart than they are for a shot at te title. Lots of striking for the first half of the match until Trish starts using power moves. Gail tries to fight back with her feet, but Trish goes right back on the offense. The referee tries to get some separation but gets shoved down as they continue to brawl. The referee has lost complete control and calls for the bell, disqualifying them both! They don't care, as they continue fighting all the way back up the ramp backstage. Eric Bischoff gets between the two of them and tells them that since they can't keep their hands off each other, then they'll get another shot. The Women's Title match at the Royal Rumble is going to be a triple threat match! It's time for our next qualifying match as Spike Dudley takes on the animal Batista. Not really surprising that Batista dominates almost the entire match. Spike manages to land a DDT, but Batista bounces right back up to finish him off with a Batista Bomb. Our next match pits two men who have already qualified for the Rumble against each other as Shawn Michaels hopes to continue his winning ways against Kane, who last week drove Goldberg out of World Wrestling Entertainment for good. Michaels takes control with his speed advantage, but Kane begins to overpower his rival. Again, Michaels pushes back with speed, but Kane again overpowers him. Kane tries a charge in the corner but eats a boot. HBK climbs to the top and lands his picture-perfect elbow before tuning up the band for Sweet Chin Music and the win! After the match, Kane jumps him and lands a chokeslam. Last week, William Regal beat Lance Storm in a purist's dream match, and the WWE brass was so impressed they decided to give them another shot, this time for a spot in the Royal Rumble! Very good match with both men getting in offense and near-falls, but Regal again picks up the win with the Power of the Punch. 24 hours ago, Matt Hardy won the Intercontinental Title in the finals of the month-long tournament, but tonight he looks to beat another set of champions, the Dudley Boyz, with his partner Christian. The Dudleyz start off by isolating Christian until Captain Charisma pulls a spear out of nowhere to tag in Hardy. Hardy is a house of fire going after D-Von until Bubba hot-tags in. Bubba overpowers Matt, but Matt ducks a wild punch and plants him with the Twist of Fate for the win! I should have switched this segment with the previous one, because the crowd was really pumped up after that match that they sort of didn't give a crap about Triple H beating Booker T with the Pedigree. The Rock has a celebration ceremony where he thanks The People for helping him have the strength to absolutely destroy Triple H at Armageddon. Rock's Royal Rumble opponent Chris Jericho is up next in the main event to take on Hurricane. Both men trade dropkicks to start, then lots of counter wrestling. Jericho comes out on top, getting 'cane to tap out to the Walls of Jericho as RAW goes off the air! Next week, it's a whole new year in WWE, and new opportunities abound for the six men particpating in the final three qualifying matches for the Royal Rumble! You won't want to miss the last RAW before the Rumble, because as we all know - anything can happen in WWE! |
