Rate the Game: Week 47
Praise be to the Invisible Pink Unicorn that I survived the week of living in Elsa's winter wonderland. I knew I could do it. I had games to get me through it! And you guys! Put those two together and we get this little shindig we've been doing for the last few
*EDIT*Yeah, just ignore that part. I overlooked a little detail and had to recalculate the scores. Earthworm Jim actually gets an average of 3.0 and thus creates another three-way with Time Crisis and Tekken! Well with that said and done it's time for a new draw! This time around the weather is business as usual so no sense in heading outdoors. Well, it actually didn't make sense last week but...shut up. Let's check the container! Well we go from one talking animal relic in Earthworm Jim to a quartet of talking animal relics in the Ninja Turtles as this week's game to rate is Konami's arcade installment of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. This is the original arcade title not any of the console games or the sequel, Turtles in Time. So how does this quarter muncher rate with you? Rate, share, and reminisce and enjoy your week! No matter what may happen to me, just remember Lzzy Hale gave me the bedroom eyes... ...again. Last edited by M-A-G; 02-22-2021 at 07:58 PM. Reason: I made a boo-boo... |

Nearly voted "2" because I thought it was the NES title.

I loved the shitty port port so I'm guessing I'd love the original even more.

Is this the one with the annoying bomb diffusing underwater level or have I not played it?

That's TMNT on NES Ultra Mantis.
The TMNT above is the arcade beat em up. This one: |

I had a ton of fun with it. I remember it being the loudest arcade game when it was out.
Also remember both Bebop and Rocksteady having unavoidable attacks, but it was a quarter muncher.... low key thiccums for quarters. Fun as hell. 4/5 for unavoidable strikes |

Had a ton of fun playing the game as a kid at a local Ames store that had a nice arcade section back in the day. Spent the most quarters on this game, Double Dragon 2, and the Simpsons arcade game. |

I had to do an edit of the leaderboard as Destor intended to score Earthworm Jim a 2 but he had clicked 1. It's not enough to make a huge difference but we're all about accuracy here, folks.

I heard that comment man. I wish coin-op didn't really die out as it has everywhere. I know there are some solid arcade scenes on the West coast and in Chicago, but damn....... Arcade was the go-to when I went anywhere. The movies, a mall (lol) putt-putt, shit, even ONE of the gabillion wal-marts had a PrettyCool arcade at one time. |

I guess the main question now to consider is how much money do you think you sank into this puppy? I'd be shocked if I spent anything less than $100.

fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck, no way it was under $100.
This was one of the first games I remember being 50 cents instead of 25. A few years later would give way to the abomination of $1 per play games. |

That was one of my first games. Fuck that swimming level with the insta death vines on the walls or whatever. Uhg.
I voted 4/5. Good game but not the greatness that was Turtles in Time. |

I can easily remember one instance where my dad had given me 5 dollars when we had taken an out of town trip and we were at a mall. Naturally I exchanged all of that shit for quarters at the arcade they had and blew pretty much all of it on this game. I know most people were all about Donatello in these games but I always tried to be Raphael when I could. The local Dairy Queen also had this game as one of its machines for a while so of course I had to dump some money there from time to time.

Raphael FTW - always.
Maaaaaaaaaaaaaan, remember $5 worth of quarters in my pocket made it feel like I would play FOREVER. |

Yeah, it was essentially a new branch of math where I'm determining the length of enjoyment I'm getting out of a session in proportion to the number of quarters in my possession. Anything more than 2 or 3 bucks was godlike.
It just blows that we're still in the midst of this crisis because I just barely came into the knowledge of a town about 4 hours away that has a place called Arcade92 that has a whole shit ton of these quarter munching classics. It'd have been nice to know about a fuck ton sooner. |

There was a point in time that both of these cabinets were at a local skating rink. They were the only two machines you could actively hear over the DJ booth music while playing them. |
