That absolutely sucks. I heard a podcast about the scandal in December. Absolutely crazy shit.

I couldn’t help but think about the names of some of their announcers: Michael Cole, Tom Phillips. I’d like to think that is just a coincidence. But neither are those guys’ real names. Of all the possible names, you choose Cole and Phillips and even let an announcer call himself “Tom Phillips.” Like, if that was Tom Hannifan’s suggestion, someone should have caught that.

Also thought WWE's Golden Era started a few years earlier than their starting point of 1986/1987 but they consider the early years of Hulkamania to be its own thing.

haha yeah Big Bully Busick's stache was epic.

Yeah I would adjust it to 1984ish, but the company didn't have a lot of guys coming in and out so fast prior to 1986. Guys like Buzz Sawyer were rare. They did have a few legends at the end of their career work House Shows in the areas they had success in like Mad Dog Vachon/the Crusher in Minnesota and Mr. Wrestling II in the South, but they didn't make weekly T.V's

That makes sense for pushing back the start of the Golden Era by a couple of years.

That reasoning also fits with how many people consider 1997 to be the start of the Attitude Era instead of 1995/1996 since 97 is when the era really kicks in and the flow of memorable guys and stars in the company.

You hear a lot of people say WrestleMania 1 was the start of the "Golden Era", partially because WWE has conditioned fans that way.

I would say the Iron Sheik beating Backlund in December 1983 was the start of the Golden Era. Mid 83-Wrestlemania 1 is soooo interesting to learn about.

Turns out Vince's recent edict on talent not being allowed to have accounts or deals with outside third party services is even more stricter than previously assumed.

They recently expanded the ban list to include Twitter and Instagram in regards to tweets and posts promoting third party stuff and not even charities are excluded from the ban.

Just like with Twitch and Cameo, WWE is also now claiming ownership of their talent's social media accounts.

Those $$ figures cannot be real.... Why would anyone choose to work for a company when they can take selfies and add in a few key hashtags and bank 6-figures a year?

My guess is that WWE is guaranteed income. You get your contract, and barring getting released, you can bank on that cash. Also, your profile is now heightened because you're working for the biggest name in the game and gaining more eyeballs.

Job stability likely played a huge role since WWE is a known quantity while AEW wasn't at the time.

When she signed her deal, AEW had only just started taping weekly shows.

TNT renewing AEW as quickly as they did and locking in a lengthy guaranteed tv contract gave AEW the legitimacy and known quantity status it was missing prior.

Yeah that for sure as well since the company didn't have any real problem with it before and you'd think with them swimming in money now, they'd barely care about it unless it was something inappropriate or conflicted with their own sponsors.

Even then, that would be a simple fix to do without needing to resort to the lengths Vince has gone towards his talent.

Wonder how WWE's employees feel that whatever excuse management gave for why they couldn't receive raises is being rendered moot by WWE going crazy with their current signing spree.

Even at the rumored $50-$60k range for typical NXT developmental deals these days, that's a ton of money the company is splurging for this new batch of signings.
