Rate the Game: Week 51 - ***THE LEGACY CONTINUES***
Because YOU DEMANDED IT! Well, 'demanded' might be too strong of a word but you definitely helped with the push to have this continue past 50 games. I wanted the pool to be bigger this time around and since there was quite a gap of time between the year I started this and right now, I've got a bigger selection to choose from and fret over. As much as I resisted it there are more sequels included. It's so big that we've moved to a different container that's worthy of handling it all. Behold, the BOWL OF EXTREME DISMEMBERMENT!!!
So, yeah, we're pumped and ready to go. Well, actually, not quite. We've got to tackle last week's Gears of War and place it in it's proper place on the leaderboard. Let's do the math and get it's average score and see the full original 50.... Well, it struggles but it's got an above average of 3.27. It'll have to contend with spot 36 for the time being because there are 75 new contenders that are going to be placed on their proper place depending on how the good people of TPWW rate them. Speaking of which, join me on this brave new endeavor as we kick start this sucker all over again with the first game out of the pile. Let's do this! This really is much easier with a bowl.... ...and there we have it! Your first game to rate in this new era is The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the Nintendo 64. I feel bad leaving this one out of the original list but it's here now, waiting for you to judge it. So what do you say? How does this game rate with you? Is it a classic? Does it hold up? Take the poll and here's to the future! No matter what may happen to me, just remember Lzzy Hale gave me the bedroom eyes... ...again. |

OoT is an all time great. while this may sound ridiculous today when it released hyrule field was an unprecedented level of freedom. its narrative was among the most fleshed out experiences of all time. the ost still holds as one of the best eve made. the combat was peak for what 3d combat could be.
this game pushed not only the franchise forward but the entire industry. its one of those rare moments when something comes along it redefines what the standard of excellence is going forward. very few games have ever been in its league for innovation or quality all across the board. easy 5. |

Also easy 5.
Distinctly recall lots of memories with this game. Reserved the gold cartridge from Babbage's only to get a fucking BLOCK OF WOOD around Christmas time. The game was GLORIOUS! Everything Destor said. It was unprecedented at the time and it actually "felt" like something new and amazing. I remember first changing to adult Link and had an OMG moment. I remember fighting Ganon with shaking hands because I was so into it. Played this game into the ground, getting all the "secrets". I remember at one point even looking up "sheet music" for the Ocarina. I would play the various tracks from around the game. Maybe it was in the "official" strategy guide or something, I dunno. Amazing game. 100% a game worthy of a "remaster" instead of other horrible Zelda titles. |

Yeah, the fuckers at the game store saw it was a gold cart and stole it, replacing it witha block of wood to simulate the weight of the actual cart.

Wow, that's fucking ballsy on their part, not to mention douchy. Please tell me you showed them what for and you got your actual cartridge because I would've gone scorched earth if something like that happened with me.

I was a minor still, so there was only so much I could do. Parents raged pretty hard though, and ended up getting it ~ 2 weeks later.
Just meant I had two carts. |

Yeah. Ocarina of Time really got things going for what gaming in general is today.
The original was great. The 3DS remake/remaster was just as good. 5. Easy. |

Minor note, so glad I got the original version of the game with the blood and the original (and better) fire temple theme.

I remember seeing a wrapped boxed copy of the game in a Game Over store here that was asking a triple-digit price for it. Would any of say that's a fair demand for a game like this?
