Rate the Game: Week 149
Oh, good day! So we're looking at a whole year before this all gets wrapped up? I'd better make sure we get some good shit to occupy all the time. How appropriate that today is National Video Game Day! Pay tribute to this glorious day by indulging in one of your favorites, trying out something new, jamming to a soundtrack (which I'm doing right now), or, of course, sharing your views on this week's game! First things first, last week's Uncharted 2 needs to find a spot on the leaderboard. Does Nathan Drake's second adventure have enough to outshine its predecessor? Can it claim a spot at the top of the pack?
Well, it's no elite title, but an average score of 4.16 is enough to give Uncharted 2 a respectable standing at number 28, being leaps and bounds above the original entry. I'm telling you, we need a crossover between Drake and the new Lara Croft. It'd make millions! But what about this week's game? Are we looking at the next number 1? The new occupant of the last place spot? What say we dive in and see? There we go. Well, the title is wrong on the paper, but the point stands. This week we're venturing into that galaxy far, far away as we take a look at LucasArts's Nintendo 64 entry in the Star Wars saga. It's Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire! Star Wars has a varied track record when it comes to video games, but where on the spectrum does this one land in your eyes? Let's do that rating thing we do and we'll see you next week for number 150!!! No matter what may happen to me, just remember Lzzy Hale gave me the bedroom eyes... ...again. |

Loved this game. Looking back, I see how terrible it is, but still, at the time it was amazing.
I had trouble with the sewer boss due to thalassophobia being a thing for me. Took me WEEKS because when the door closed and the room filled with murky water, it freaked me out. This is the same reason I don't play that deep sea exploration game with the big ass underwater creatures. 4/5 for me - nostalgia glasses are on like a mofo. |

Ha! The god damn wampas. I remember the mission where you get to wrap the cables around the AT-AT's and drag em down. That was awesome too.

Never played it.
Only Star Wars games I remember ever playing were Star Wars Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader on Gamecube, a little bit of Battlefront II (2017) on Xbox One, and a demo for either Battlefront I or II on PS2. |

It probably does, but I'm going to give it a 4 just because the piloting sections were so fun.
Piloting a snowspeeder and actually wrapping up the legs of at-ats was mind blowing at the time. I spent hours just dog fighting at the skyhook and using cheats to play as different ships. Also the swoop bike battle through the streets of tatooine was another level I would play over and over. |

There's a lot it does that had never been done. The opening sequence on Hoth was the most film accurate moment ever. But then you get out and its the best Han Solo game (without han solo) still to this day. Then they slap a jetpack on you and its the best boba fett game ever made. For its time, strictly against its peers, it was a highly memorable game.
That said like all early 3d games its visually aged like day old milk left out in the sun and it controls about as well. Its imperfect and it wouldve been better on the Playstation. But i loved it. Tons of fun replaying the same levels over and over. |

Never played it.
I almost owned it. Me and my cousin both got the Nintendo 64 for Christmas and my grandma bought two games, this and Wayne Gretsky 3D Hockey. I went with the hockey game cause I love Hockey. Was such a fun game. Honestly never played a star wars game outside of Force Unleashed. |

That said, I never managed to pick it up and try it, and I was an N64 guy. I just wasn't die-hard about Star Wars. Even the pod racer game that came out later was overlooked by me. I just remember the game being hyped up and people making a big deal out of it because it was the first new Star Wars related media in a long time, up until The Phantom Menace. |
