The one confidant who gives speeches, is that Tora? I believe you get an ability from him that allows you to ask for more money during negotiations, basically I just keep asking and asking until the shadows get pissed at me and I knock them down again and just repeat the negotiations. Some of the enemies give you between 5000-8000 yen per turn so you can walk away from some battles having farmed like 50,000
