FEW Fight Night - August 1, 2009

---

Jonathan Coachman opens the first ever FEW PPV by announcing several bonus matches to be added to the card, most notably Cliff Compton facing off against Chris Harris!
OR: 83

In our first FEW Television Title tournament semi-final contest, Harry Smith and Ted DiBiase Jr. went one-on-one. The two youngsters put on a decent show, with Ted coming out victorious after a Dream Crusher. DiBiase Jr. showed a ruthless side to him after, assaulting Harry Smith.

Colt Cabana entered next, and looked a bit concerned for his friend, Harry Smith. The announcers mention that Colt was likely busy preparing for his match and thus he didn't run out to save Smith from the extra beatdown, and now he has to face the first ever FEW Champion D'Lo Brown. After a really even match, Colt manages a Colt 45 and secures the upset victory! D'Lo congratulates Colt on the effort after, shaking his hand.
OR: 77, CR: 66, MQ: 89

In a bonus cruiserweight match, James Maritato met up with Sho Funaki. Not much to say here really...a good match, but the crowd just couldn't get into it, unfortunately. Funaki picks up the win following the Rising Sun. The feisty Italian Maritato looks pissed after, pounding the mat in frustration.
OR: 66, CR: 53, MQ: 79

Another bonus contest saw the other 10 men from the FEW Television Title tournament not yet on the card paired up randomly into teams of 5 for a 10-man tag team match. On one team was Armando Castro, Chuck Palumbo, Lance Kade, Steve Lewington, and Super Crazy. On the other: Bob Howard, Kenny Doane, Paul London, Trevor Murdock, and Val Venus. It was interesting to say the least as the faces and heels were mixed and attempted to co-exist. At one point, Kade and Murdock were both tagged in but refused to fight one another and tagged in heels instead. Everybody gets a chance to showcase their abilities. Kenny Doane slaps Bob Howard on the back to tag himself in, Bob decks him, and Kenny stumbles right into a Sidewinder from Steve Lewington to end the bout.
OR: 70, CR: 65, MQ: 75

Cliff Compton and Chris Harris continued their bitter rivalry next with a really brutal match. A lot of brawling and punching, seemed like a fight right out of a back alley. Cliff takes the easy way out and gets himself counted out. Chris Harris refuses to accept that win, and chases after Compton. They continue to brawl to the back. I don't think this is the last time we will see these two meeting up.
OR: 83, CR: 78, MQ: 89

Ted DiBiase Jr. and Colt Cabana put on a show to culminate the FEW Television Title tournament. The crowd was solidly behind Colt, trying to rally him onto the title despite Ted's best efforts to cheat and use underhanded tactics. Ted is backed into the corner, Colt charges - DiBiase pulls the ref into the way! Ref bump of doom! Ted grabs a chair, but here comes a beaten down Harry Smith! Ted flees, leaving the chair in the ring. Harry picks it up, Colt recovers...Smith cracks Colt over the skull! HEEL TURN! Harry plants him with a Running Powerslam before reviving the ref. Ted lands a Dream Crusher for good measure, and 3 seconds later is declared the first ever FEW Television champion! Harry and Ted shake hands! Why would Smith do this to his friend Colt Cabana?
OR: 80, CR: 75, MQ: 85

Elijah Burke cuts a promo against Thorn. He's outsmarted Thorn before, and he plans on doing it again.
OR: 85

While the in-ring quality of the main event still was pretty mediocre, the crowd was much hotter for this confrontation, everybody wanted to see Thorn shut Burke and The REAL Wrestlers up once and for all. Jake Swagger and Zigg Nemeth made nuisances of themselves, running out to try and distracted Thorn to no avail. The referee finally has enough and attempts to eject them from ringside. As the ref is preoccupied with that, Elijah Burke grabs the FEW Title and attempts to hit Thorn in the skull with it for the 4th time. But Thorn ducks! Thorn grabs the belt, and hits Burke with it himself! The crowd goes wild! Thorn covers, the referee turns around, and...the bell rings? The ref sees the belt in the ring and decided Thorn must have used it! Thorn has been disqualified! Swagger and Nemeth pull Burke and the title out of the ring, smiling all the way. Thorn did get outsmarted after all.
OR: 82, CR: 85, MQ: 76

77% Overall Rating for Fight Night
0.25 Buy Rate

The buy rate seems hella low...but then again I'm only Cult sized, so we'll see. Hopefully having my PPVs on Saturdays won't be a mistake. If it is, I'll just switch to the first Sunday of each month.
