FEW Shockwave - July 15, 2009
--- The focus of tonight was on the tournament to crown a new FEW Television champion, with 4 randomly selected first round matchups from the field of 16. We started it off with two tough guys and two faces, Lance Kade and "Hardcore" Bob Howard going head to head. A lot of stiff punches were exchanged before Kade really started to take control. A few fallaway slams, a stump piledriver, and finally the Redneck Bomb put Hardcore down for the count of three. Lance Kade advances. As luck would have it, Lance Kade's partner Trevor Murdock was out for the next match...and if he could have the same kind of luck his partner did, they would be scheduled to face off in 2 weeks in the quarter-finals. But it was a non-issue, as his opponent wound up being Ted DiBiase Jr. Ted pretty much dominated this one and finished it off with the Million Dollar Buster to advance. Cliff Compton took the time to rip into Chris Harris. He said he hopes the brackets work out so that he can embarrass Harris next week to advance in the tournament. Whether or not he actually wants any piece of Chris Harris remains to be seen, but we'll see how the brackets work out. The impressive Steve Lewington is out next for our third first round bout of the evening, as he squares off against the Cuban Armando Castro. Castro takes control in the early going, downing Steve and using heel tactics to try to get ahead. But ever-resilient, Lewington comes firing back with a flurry of offense. Sidewinder, three count, and Lewington moves on in his quest to be the first FEW Television champion. Our final first round match of the night had some international flair involved as Super Crazy took on Harry Smith. The crowd sat on their hands throughout this one, which is odd as Smith is growing in popularity and I thought Super Crazy was somewhat over. Oh well. In either event, Smith pays homage to his dad by putting Crazy away with a Running Powerslam. Lewington vs. Smith in two weeks, Brit vs. Brit. Our show ends with a cryptic promo from Thorn. Despite receiving two title belt shots to the skull in the span of a week, that will not slow him down in his quest to become the champion. He beat King Nelson last week, and he dares Elijah Burke to give him another title shot. In fact, he will face anybody Burke wants to throw at him next week. --- In next week's Shockwave, our final four first-round matchups to round out the quarter finals. Will Cliff Compton and Chris Harris get matched up together? And what does Elijah Burke have up his sleeve for Thorn? |
