Methinks you're thinking of "The Wily Wars" Genesis port.

Mega Man 9 was full-on retro, NES era graphics and sound. Even the game placard in the marketplace was (on purpose) done by the same artist who made the undeniably fugly US cover art for Mega Man 1. It hit all the right notes with a lot of people, myself included, for the perfect blend of nostalgia and new challenge.

Mega Man 10, on the other hand, was just punishingly hard for no fucking reason and ventured into cheap bullshit deaths quite a bit.

By the way, thanks, OssMan... I realize I never bothered to get the "Gamer's Day" achievement. I should fix that someday soon.
