WWE Superstars – July 8, 2010
Unfortunate Twist of Fate

As always, WWE’s weekly dual-branded show provided plenty of entertainment as the superstars from both Raw and SmackDown look to make their marks to slide up the ranks of their respective shows.

Mark Henry def. Yoshi Tatsu
In his first match since becoming an associate of United States champion Ted DiBiase, a ruthless Mark Henry made short work of Yoshi Tatsu, mercifully finishing the bout with The World’s Strongest Slam. “The World’s Strongest Man” may be the best bodyguard that money can buy. After the bout, Henry raised Tatsu to his feet only for Michael Tarver to send him right back down to the mat with a right hand.

Skip Sheffield def. Vladimir Kozlov
Last week on Superstars, Sheffield lost a close bout to Goldust before being attacked by his former Pro on NXT, William Regal as well as his comrade Vladimir Kozlov. Tonight, Sheffield was able to gain a measure of revenge as he faced off against Kozlov. The Moscow Mauler showed his Sambo prowess and used several headbutts, but it wasn’t enough to stop Sheffield. Sheffield showed great power and won following a vertical suplex pin. Afterwards, Goldust chased away William Regal before he could deliver a cheap shot with brass knuckles.

Luke Gallows def. Darren Young
Much like last week, Young fell victim to a numbers game that comes with facing a member of the Straight Edge Society. While Joey Mercury was able to distract the official, Serena tripped up Young from the outside. That left Young as easy prey for a Gallow’s Pole and a victory for Gallows. With two losses in two weeks to Punk’s disciples, one has to wonder if Young will be able to bounce back in the coming weeks.

Dolph Ziggler def. Matt Hardy
Our main event certainly didn’t disappoint, as the two experienced superstars put on quite the clinic. Coming off losses in their first try at the WWE World Cup, both of these men needed a strong showing to build some momentum for their next match. Ziggler showed some extra tenacity on this night, which should benefit him greatly at Money in the Bank in just 10 days. Hardy went for the Twist of Fate, but took a bit too long to showboat, as Ziggler surprised Hardy with a rollup victory. That was quite the unfortunate twist of fate for Hardy, but a great win for Ziggler.
