I assume they wanted a belt to be exclusive to Strong which this new one likely will be while the US belt stays as a belt that shows up on both Strong and NJPW's Japan shows.

Could also see this lead to a US version of Sakura Genesis where the US Champ takes on the Strong champ in a special match every year.
