WWE Superstars – July 1, 2010
Dudes Busted

As always, WWE Superstars provided a large dose of variety. In just one night we saw some exciting tag team action, the Raw divas in action, and two superstars having their debut matches with their respective new brands.

Goldust def. Skip Sheffield
A WWE Pro for NXT Season 2, Goldust was scheduled to face William Regal. However, Regal informed Goldust that he had found a replacement – his NXT Season 1 rookie Skip Sheffield, making his debut as a member of the Raw roster. Sheffield looked tougher than ever, although the occasional mental lapses still seemed to be evident. One misstep is all it took for Goldust to hit a big Curtain Call for the win.

After the bout, Goldust proceeded to shake Sheffield’s hand and congratulate him on a solid outing. After Goldust left, Regal and Vladimir Kozlov jumped Sheffield out of frustration. Goldust ran back into the ring to ward them off, before helping Sheffield to his feet. Goldust claimed that he would have been a better mentor Sheffield than Regal would ever be.

Eve Torres def. Jillian Hall
Just over a month removed from her run as Divas champion, Eve has to be looking to get back into the title picture. She went a long way towards establishing that with a win against the always-irritating Jillian Hall. Eve showed some impressive jiu jitsu skills and forced Jillian to tap out with an impressive armbar. Could this match be a stepping stone for Eve to get back into the title hunt? We’ll see in the coming weeks.

Joey Mercury def. Darren Young
Accompanied by fellow Straight Edge disciples Luke Gallows and Serena, Joey Mercury vowed to make an example of his opponent, new SmackDown signing Darren Young, CM Punk’s rookie in NXT Season 1. Mercury pleaded with Young to join them, and undo the mistakes he’s made in the past, but Young still refused.

If Young’s performance tonight is any indication, then SmackDown have got themselves a great signing. He took Mercury to the limit, and had several nearfalls during the match. Unfortunately for him, the numbers game was just too great, as both Serena and Luke Gallows at ringside were able to distract him as Mercury connected with an enzuiguri to the back of the head for the victory. Luke Gallows jumped in and added a Gallows Pole for good measure.

Christian & Kofi Kingston def. The Dudebusters
Despite not being a regular tag team by any means, Christian and Kingston worked like a well-oiled machine in this bout against the Dudebusters. All four men got equal time in the ring before Christian managed to put Caylen Croft in position for the Killswitch. Trent Barreta attempted to intervene, but was cut off at the past with a Trouble in Paradise from Kingston. Christian then delivered the Killswitch to Croft as the popular duo picked up the win. Both men certainly seem primed and ready for the SmackDown Money in the Bank match as well as the WWE World Cup.
