I'm with you on a lot of that but I'm going to be a bit harsher. I never understood why this was a big title for Sega. It controlled pretty poorly and like you said, the roster was unappealing to me. To this day I don't even know the story, if any, behind the game. Even with some of the lesser appreciated fighting games like Killer Instinct and Tekken, I knew some of what was going on and many of the characters had an intriguing to look to them. It succeeds on a technical level, sure but I've never had the urge to revisit it.
