The rules have been changed just for this season to Liverpool's benefit. There was next to 0 chance of Everton being dropped in Liverpool's favour and that would have been grossly unfair given that the rules were stated at the start of the year. If any team has been lucky its Liverpool (though deservedly so). Not to mention the fact that Everton (and the other 3 English clubs) now get less money than they would have had Liverpool not been given entry. Don't get me wrong it was the right decision but to say Everton of all teams were lucky is ridiculous.
I think the end result was fair and I just hope Liverpool avoid the English teams in the 3rd Quali round and group stages.

I meant if this situation happened identically next year then Everton would be out, as the 4th place team's spot would be given to the non-qualifying champions.
