You can't do that, it's not fair giving the league teams a target to play for then make it dependent on what other teams do. Everton are out buying players now based on the fact they have a Champions League season ahead. It wouldn't be fair for a club to play all season and win a place, only to have it taken away because of what some other club does in an unrelated competition. The competitiveness of the league has to be protected. The simple matter is that a place should always be open for the winners of the tournament.
