The goals were scored in the first half by KING THEO ZAGORAKIS (first international goal) and a penalty from Angelos Basinas. Poor defending and lack of communication up the back from Nikopolidis gifted Denmark a goal in first half injury time and the 2-1 scoreline remained for the rest of the game. From the highlights we were absolutely outstanding in the first half and should have buried Denmark but were a bit sloppy in the second period and had to rely on some decent saves by Nikopolidis to grind out the win.
The win promotes us to 2nd in Group 2, with a game in hand over Ukraine who are in first place. They had a 0-2 win over Albania and are 6 points ahead of Greece now. The advantage we have is that we have already played them away from home and we managed with a decent result, a 1-1 draw having come from a goal down. So we have Ukraine at home for the return fixture and if we win that game we'll close them up. Next game up for Greece is next month away to Georgia then a home game against Albania. We really (and must) win these games convincingly and set ourselves up to finish at the very least in 2nd spot. Still, we have yet to play Denmark and Turkey away so it will be difficult. |

Group seems pretty tough, I'd have said Denmark, Turkey and you lot would be fighting it out, supruisd Ukraine are there.
