Beckham is having a good season and has been England's inspiration in the past. Form is temporary, class is permanent, and Beckham's international class isn't in doubt. I'd have replaced him at Euro 2004 when he was looking unfit and jaded, but he's got to be given every chance to find his form for England again.

People think all you have to do is stick an in-form Premiership player in a national team and he'll suddenly be able to cope with international football. Look at the state of Wright-Phillips tonight against a second string Holland side: he was shit, from what I saw.

Mind you, I was watching the Ireland game mainly. Andy Reid was brilliant, and Duff tortured them. I'm confident for the games against Israel. If we can get 6 points out of those, I'm certain we'll qualify. I'd be happy enough with 4, though. Israel will be tricky to play out there. At home, I fancy us against any side in the world.

The quality of Duff's crossing is something else. No tricks like Ronaldo kept trying all night, just worms past defenders and sticks in fantastic crosses. Robbie Keane should really have notched a goal. Good win, though, in a pretty well contested game.

Brian Keff plays friendlies just right. He sticks with his first choice side and bloods one or two players who are on the fringes of the 11, without fucking the system around or plugging anyone into a position they don't play. He made 4 or 5 changes tonight without the shape changing at all, really.

Sven just seems to pay lip service to Premiership form by handing out caps to every Tom, Dick and Player of the Month. Also, Owen Hargreaves is fucking terrible.
