New Japan was teasing it too. There’s no benefit to teasing Nakamura if WWE aren’t playing ball. NJPW deserves shit for not getting around Tony and working with AEW in the first place. Anyone could have told you it would end up depressing for New Japan. The state of them outside the Dome ticket sales is something else. Dome tickets likely moved because fans were hoping/expecting something big to happen.
