1 thing I loved in claire obscure was there were occasional spots with fixed camera angles... like you'd discover a forest that was just one screen and it had an item you could pick up, but the camera angle was fixed instead of giving you free reign with it

i like when games do this... makes it feel less about "immersing me" and rather lets me observe the world and the characters from afar while being able to highlight specific areas or design choices. i wish games would incorporate fixed camera angles more... when i have full control of the camera i'm always spinning it around trying to make sure i looked in every single area and it adds a lot more playtime. it gets on my nerves. My mom was interested in playing the last of us after watching the show so i brought it over, put it on easy mode but she's never played a video game before so it took her like 20 minutes to walk downstairs out of the bedroom because the concept of maneuvering the camera with one joystick and walking with the other was foreign to her. as experienced video game players we take it for granted but its actually a huge barrier to entry for a lot of people for playing games like that.

most newer games i pick up nowdays feel this way. ff7 rebirth pissed me off because it just felt like another ps5 game with the same camera and maps and all that, rather than the greatest god damb game of all time. Generally they all feel pretty indistinguishable from each other which is kinda sad to me.

another thing i loved was that there was no fast travel system on the world map. if you wanted to go somewhere you had to interact with the world. this encourages you to explore and just take in the setting. they still considered your quality of life by making travel relatively swift and omitting any random battles so it doesnt feel burdensome. but man having the world slowly open up to you and then finally getting the airship was so refreshing
