Skyward Sword's problem is the first couple of hours is the most story heavy in a Zelda game ever and as a tradeoff, also the slowest in terms of pacing and gameplay. Combine that with the game pretty much being a giant tutorial until the boss fight with Ghirahim the first time around and Fi being a way more annoying version of Navi and that is where a lot of the hate for the game comes from.

I thought the motion controls for the game worked pretty great in general except for thrust attacks since for some reason it was a toss up on if the sensor bar and game would register the motion.
