127 Hours (2010) - 7/10

This being based on a pretty famous story this is all going to be a spoiler since the film assumes you know the story.

SPOILER: show
When he gets stuck the initial claustrophobia is really well done. You can easily feel as trapped as he is. Everything after until the climax is mostly just to make a movie happen. In truth this shouldve been a 45min short film. Still its interesting despite it being extraneous.

The amputation i had been told was especially harrowing and honestly i felt the way it was shot and edited was all wrong. Its cut heavy using split screen and "internal" shots of the knife working through his arm. This all is immersion breaking. The film builds to this major moment and i dont think it resonates like it should. It doesnt ruin the film though.

What does resonate is when he finds help. There's an instant catharsis that occurs and inan innstant all the tension is let out of the film in a way that really hits. His isolation is ended and for a breif moment you appreciate humanity.
