AEW does not have a vision. The criticisms of bookers is often that they just do what they want to do and not factor in what fans are actually hungry for. Tony Khan is no different. The PWG ironic wrestling stuff does not work. No one wants an insincere product. TK is going to jam it down people’s throats and declare it a success regardless of what the reality actually is.
He erroneously won Booker of the Year for a third time. He can step away and call his run successful. But he’s on the backfoot now he can’t just enact what he fantasy booked from the start. It’s time to put someone else in, identify what works and what doesn’t, and make the changes that are going to be reflected in the ratings, since their job will be conditional on their performance. Theoretically, anyway. Tony isn’t a results-driven boss, and even smart guys are probably going to leave barriers of entry like The Elite and Orange Cassidy alone.
This is what AEW is. If you like it? Fine. That’s your prerogative. But it’s awful and it objectively has a ceiling on its appeal. And it’s a shame for us who are craving good wrestling.
