At best I thought they just let him run wild with a promo which it sounds like they still did.

Maybe at the time, because nobody knew where they were going with it, I thought there was an element of shoot to it, but I have my doubts. IIRC I was just like "Oh shit they actually finally let Punk be Punk, this could be good."

Retrospectively, it seemed like a work the whole way through, especially once he won the fucking title. And I don't see what's wrong with that. It was really well done.

Anyways, in recent times, especially, I haven't talked to anyone who actually thinks it was a shoot.
