In wake of the Gresham story about miscommunication within AEW...Joey Janela went on record that his words of "being ghosted" by Tony Khan were taken out of context, and that he never had an issue with talking to Khan, his issue was moreso that talent relations isn't on the ball. Tony Deppen also mentioned that he found it easy to get in contact with Tony Khan directly at a taping and had a full blown conversation with him despite being an extra.

I see two issues that tie in to each other:

1) Khan might have a largely good rapport with the talent he talks to but the guy runs and books two promotions, is the co-owner and working in the front office of two professional sports franchise, and runs a sports analytics firm. The guy could have his phone open 24 hours a day and there's simply no way he'd be able to drop everything to talk with everyone who might need him. This is where you need intermediaries who have some oversight, specifically Talent Relations

2) They DO have a Talent Relations department but as far as I know it's Christopher Daniels, Michael Nakazawa, and Shawn Dean...all of whom are at least semi-active on the independents themselves. They really need a dedicated person or two in that kind of a job.
