Personally I don’t mind it. It breaks the cycle of someone gets a shot, screwy finish, rematch at the next big show. Also means Roman isn’t burning through contenders. They’re clearing lining up Riddle for a programme (albeit a loss) that he should come out of looking stronger, and Orton, and McIntyre has already announced his shot.

They could be doing more with the undercard but HIAC has lined up to be a pretty solid card without a world title match. Seth/Cody blow off in the Cell is a worthy main event - and I like that there’s only one Cell match this time. The 6 person tag if quite unique for WWE. I’d question whether Ezekie/Owens is a “PPV worthy match” but it’s over with the crowd. Ali/Theory for the US Championship feels a bit flimsy but Ali is in front of his hometown, can’t see him getting the win but a chance to show what he can do. The womens triple threat should be a great match, not convinced they way they got to it did anybody any favours though. Corbin/Moss I can definitely take a pass on. Lashley/Omos III this time featuring MVP I can also do without.

All in all it’s got enough “peaks and troughs” to be a decent show. Then we get Roman at MITB + 2 ladder matches, Roman/Orton at SummerSlam, and Roman/McIntyre at CATC. He’ll be on the Saudi show November 5th, and for as much as I’d like Survivor Series to be seen as a big show again, I’d probably give him the night off there.
A lot of feedback I’ve seen has been that people are enjoying the shows more now that it’s focused on the stories (as good or as bad as they are). Having a big, fake secondary belt isn’t going to make the shows “better” for the marks that are complaining. It’s just silly internet talk.

They’ve got plans for Roman, as you’ve laid out. The other major people will be in other major programs. Why would they hit a phantom panic switch and just throw everything in the air for a few obsessive nerds on the internet’s bad ideas?
