Which I understand. But if his views had fundamentally changed between now and then, he'd have at least said something about once holding those horrible views. The big trick everyone tries to pull with "it's a long time ago" is to get you to ignore the many intervening years where the person could have apologized, atoned, or demonstrated personal growth.
