And why would WWE change? The only reason to do so would be to stop talent from jumping ship. But when you jump ship you go from one frying pan into another frying pan. You’re going into witness protection. You’re trading fame and recognition to basically appear on a game show.

And this is the problem I’ve had with AEW from the start. They are not good enough to use their resources to actually put the flame to WWE. So what you’re going to get is WWE being WWE, and their nearest challenger being closer to ROH than them in terms of popularity, making it look like this is the best anyone can do against Vince. It’s actually not a good thing for wrestling, and people won’t look past the simplistic arguments of “Guys have jobs,” “They’re getting paid a lot,” “There’s more wrestling on TV.” This is sucking the well dry, because it’s 10 hours of bad wrestling on basic cable or network TV every week. It’s going to take its toll.

My biggest hope is still that another billionaire comes in and just buys all the talent worth a shit from the indies, MLW, the NWA, ROH and AEW. Tony won’t have the balls to say no to people asking for releases. Either that or all this bad wrestling acts as an incubator, so when someone finally comes along in later years and does something good, it’s like wrestling has been dark for so long that it’s fresh again. 2001-whenever that is will be remembered as the Dark Ages — the Sports Entertainment Years. Then we’ll get the debut of 21st Century Pro-Wrestling.
