I don’t pay a dime for any subscribed wrestling content. I only pay using AEW PPV because it’s worth $25 every few months to watch a show I’m likely to enjoy. If they ever want monthly PPV mode I wouldn’t purchase every show and what I like about the product would prob suffer because monthly PPVs either means rematches or rushing storylines.
In the post MITB Raw in 2011, the show drew nearly 5 million TV viewers. A decade later and Raw is hitting record low numbers and routinely finishing with less than 2 million viewers. Something doesn’t add up there, and it’s not because those missing 3-4 million people have pedestrian taste or are sheep. When tv shows get bad, or stale, or never reward their viewers with satisfying payoffs, people stop watching. WWE isn’t losing nearly three quarters of their audience because Dave Meltzer is selling rumors on the internet. It’s because their product just isn’t any good, their roster stale, and very little if anything they’re producing is entertaining, intriguing, or exciting.
Vince McMahon is insane. It keeps doing the same shit over and over again despite the results being the same; declining ratings, declining interest and apathetic crowds. He’s getting paid a shit ton of money to produce content and that’s great for him. His business acumen is undeniable. But his creativity clearly isn’t speaking to people anymore and the fact that they’re continually losing their audience speaks to that.
