You can take your pick. Meltzer, Alvarez and anyone who stands to make a profit of selling a “WWE bad” narrative are probably the best place to start. Meltzer lies through his teeth to make AEW seem more impressive than it is. Never mind that the talk of demos has only popped up to make AEW look good, even though it’s bullshit and everyone knows it.

If you want to sell a newsletter or subscription to your feed or whatever, do whatever you can to make the WWE sound like it’s receding in a way that is going to deathly embarrass its network. Meanwhile, AEW is super cool, way to go.

Then you get impressionable folk like slik and Smeat, who aren’t the best at critical thinking, and it gets regurgitated until it becomes something you actively need to correct.

A recent example of this is when a lot of AEW fanboys thought that Meltzer was reporting the domestic buyrate of Double or Nothing recently. This was because Meltzer deliberately conflates domestic and international buys when comparing it to the domestic buys of other promotions. It’s very easy to lead people astray, and it might just be mildly annoying to some, but when you care about honesty, it can be downright infuriating that there are not more unbiased voices.
