Bret was always the most popular across the pond as they say. That was where he was always considered that beloved hero. When he turned heel Canada kind of got wrapped up in his lore of popularity in Europe, and wrestling fans in Canada were happy to be a part of that lore.

I think Stu was far more beloved in Canada, and Bret was just another one of Stu's kids, albeit the most successful one.
