I don't hate Meltzer, I'm just weary of his bias and how he's been wrong about lots of AEW/NXT related stuff. AEW lost me -- that's their fault. I'm not obligated to enjoy anything else put out by any other company just because they're not WWE.
WWE are a little more active with NXT, but that would have been expected even if there was not competition for it, but it is nowhere near what that narrative of things makes out. For months Meltzer and Alvarez were blasting WWE for not advertising NXT on Raw or SmackDown, and scratching their heads as to why. Which way do they want it? Did WWE do a shitty job promoting NXT, or are they throwing so much into it because they're obsessed with AEW. They're opposing dichotomies and Meltzer and Alvarez just switch depending on how they want to position them that day.
I'm nowhere near a Triple H fan, but it was pretty obvious what NXT was doing from the start. And it's pretty obvious that they are not running full sprint with this thing so they don't burn people out on it. It's cool to say that Triple H doesn't know what he's doing and he doesn't understand AEW or NXT, but I just don't think that's the reality of what's happening. They knew full well what they were doing when their biggest attraction for a few weeks was a tag team tournament. And no, I don't think Triple H expected Charlotte Flair to boost the ratings by hundreds of thousands of people.
