WWE doing their best to prevent it from happening would be a big reason. Did it to World of Sport when ITV competed against their UK plans, to ROH a few years ago when it looked like ROH might finally reach the next level of growth, and recently against AAA by trying to take steam away from their MSG show.

Realistically, AEW probably needs a good 2-3 years to be established enough to potentially start becoming a legit WCW-like threat to WWE. Took WCW almost a year before Nitro became a legit threat to RAW and they were an established company that already had a presence on tv beforehand.

Impact blew their chance of ever becoming a real threat to WWE because they mishandled things from the start and whenever they tried to grow, they went about it in a wreckless way that crashed down every time leading to them never really growing their audience nor their status.
