Don't know anything about the group's work pre-WWE but their problems in WWE were pretty much twofold.
The first issue being WWE putting a bigger priority on themes fitting great as ringtones around the same time mobile phones started to become a mainstream craze. Shorter themes is also why WWE eventually scaled down the size of the ramp and time for entrances.
The other issue being WWE's constant splurging of signings meant CFO$ had to crank out themes at a faster pace than Jim Johnston ever had to worry about which meant less time spent working per theme and the hit on quality as a result.
