I think we've discussed this before, but while you're reasoning there is perfectly logical, I'll just throw out this:

Shawn Michaels could have made a shit-ton of money to come back at any time. He's perceived by many to be the GOAT, legit. Is the rumored sum $5 million? He could very easily have worked out a contract with Vince for that much previously. Plus merchandise, specials and all that. I don't buy money as being the reason. I really don't.

There are plenty of reasons HBK might want to come out of retirement. His children are older now. Maybe they want to see him work a match? He's been working with the young kids and might think he can teach them better by showing them what he can do. He might just have the itch. I'm sure he's not doing it for free, don't get me wrong, but I don't think it's a case of the prince throwing a whole bunch of money at him and Michaels thinking "Well, in that case..."

I predicted Michaels would be coming back the moment I saw The Rock rumors. I think backstage politics and Triple H's insecurities to function as a top level draw are as likely to be involved as the money. But all these issues compound into a plethora of reasons that Shawn Michaels might want to come back. But he can't really come back and not work the Saudi show. What if the Saudis asked for him and they said "No, he's retired," and then he popped up for WrestleMania?

If this show doesn't happen, Shawn will still get paid a shit-ton -- regardless if it is as much or not. WWE has $5 million lying around. But they may not give him that much. He may not want that much. But I'm sure the plan has been for him to come out of retirement for quite a while, and I'm sure it's not just isolated to one match.
