A random thought I had the other night: As unlikely as this would seem, and "bad storytelling" is probably the most obvious explanation of things, but do you think that Triple H has been presented as an ass-kicker for the purpose of being able to switch gears with the face/heel dynamic of the match if Reigns is continuing to struggle to win over crowds at WrestleMania time?
Everyone I've seen talk about the match seems to think that the best way to go is to have Triple H be the ultimate chickenshit heel champion, and they're frustrated he's basically a bad-ass babyface when he beats the shit out of Reigns. Given Roman's current predicament is this really a bad thing though?
The crowd is going to boo Roman Reigns at WrestleMania. This much is certain. Triple H can use whatever heelish trick he wants -- he's going to get cheered for everything he does. So why not play into that? I'm not saying turn Roman Reigns heel. Well, that would be the wise thing to do for him, but it may not be the right window. But if Triple H portrays himself as the bad-ass resident default fighting game character type warrior, he could rally the crowds into the match a bit more.
One promo is all it would take. One promo about the things he's done and the passion he has for professional wrestling. One promo about how he signed Roman Reigns, groomed him, gave him The Shield, tried to hand him the title and all Reigns wants to do is spit it all back at him. One promo about how the beating Reigns put on him at TLC made his daughters cry and they made him promise that he'd beat the piss out of that bad man. And beat the piss out of Roman Reigns is what he's going to do.
At this point, everyone knows that Reigns is the golden child. The feud with Daniel Bryan was pretty much washed away with his retirement and Triple H and Vince McMahon basically conceding what a great wrestler and all-round guy he is. People know that the reality isn't that Reigns is hard done by. So play to what they know: Have Triple H promo about how there are suits in the company behind Reigns, but if you listen to these crowds they know that Reigns doesn't belong in that spot. Sure, he may have earned everything he's gotten so far, but he's about to run into a brick wall known as The Game. At WrestleMania, Triple H is going to bury Roman Reigns because it's best for business. *huge pop*
Whatever. Just an idea I had. Reigns vulnerability isn't in the ring right now. People are going to see through that. The vulnerability he has is that there will be 100,000 people paying to see him fail. Maybe people will feel more sorry for Reigns if they point that out and make it seem like he is actually losing favor with the company?
