I actually dug that about Ryback.

The problem then, was that once he was at "that level", they fucked up, didn't know what to do with him and made him a jobber/heel.

In fact, Ryback going from squash matches/mid-card matches to suddenly going after CM Punk was quite exciting. Gave a legit vibe that anything could happen in WWE.
