That hasn't stopped WWE from recognizing the big attention that the story has gotten online and it lead to them running their own story on the WWE website where they claimed to have reached out to Triple H's office for confirmation the company was in "negotiations" with the quartet but were unable to get comment.

It should be noted that Nakamura and Anderson are currently under NJPW deals and couldn't even negotiate with WWE "officially" as of today. As I reported last night, neither Styles nor Gallows were under contract to NJPW.
More rumors and news regarding this involves the WWE being somewhat upset the news got leaked since they had planned for a big surprise at the Rumble. Could still do it but might also be changing those plans now. Also another 3 more guys are also rumored to be leaving with the WWE as the likely choice (Rocky Romero, Tama Tonga, & Bad Luck Fale). According to the Observer, AJ Styles and Nakamura likely going straight to the main roster due to the money the WWE is likely tossing at them for offers (even larger than Balor's). Nakamura also rumored to be allowing NJPW as much time needed to make a counter offer which is why he's likely the last to arrive if he takes the WWE offer. Also rumored that NJPW might be disbanding the Bullet Club stable in favor of a new one based on recent show results.

It was said to be a response to a question that then took on a life of its own.
