Night of Champions is one of the most awkwardly placed PPVs of the year, in my opinion. It comes just after SummerSlam, where you often have a big angle go down or a heel walk out the big winner. You follow this up with a PPV that is basically presented as a maintenance show, with the gimmick that all five titles are defended. Well, weren't they all defended at SummerSlam too?

I'm not against the idea of a Night of Champions -- especially if it is presented with a bit of chic and class -- but it might be best used as one of those irregular Network specials. You can bust it out when every champion has an obvious and exploitable storyline and make the show shorter than the three-hour run time of a traditional PPV, and perhaps just not show the preliminary matches you use to give the live fans a full experience.

I'm sitting here thinking that as opposed to Seth Rollins vs. Sting and Seth Rollins vs. John Cena being promoted for the September PPV; imagine if Seth Rollins teamed with Triple H to take on the dream team of John Cena & Sting at either Unforgiven or even the first-ever WWE presented version of Fall Brawl. The dynamics they want to explore between Rollins & Triple H are more obviously on display, and Cena gets a main event without cutting off all of Rollins' momentum, and Sting gets some of the pressure removed from his spot. Plus it saves the eventual "Sting challenges for the WWE Title" moment.
