Interested to see what the Cubs do this month. In years past, ownership has said they were going to stick to a plan, then barfed cash because they could. They already broke one of their major unwritten organizational rules this season (no matter the prospect, he needs a full seasons worth in AAA).
Since it looks like they'll be playing for the one-game wild card, it seems crazy to make a big trade now for a top starter lest they wind up like Oakland last year. I hope they stay the course and get a innings eating 3rd or 4th starter who will cost less but could still help give them a slight bump for the regular season and get to the one game playoff. They currently have 4 starters in the top 25 in the NL in FIP and WAR, but because of the hole in the 5th spot, people seem to think they absolutely need a front line guy but I don't see the urgency.
