So Star Wars is back with Marvel, and it's looking pretty fucking good so far. Star Wars comics in the past have been hit or miss (mostly miss) but Marvel is throwing some talented names into the writing and artwork for these books. There are three titles at the moment. All of them take place between episodes 4 and 5.
The main one is just called Star Wars like the classic marvel comic, and like that comic, it expands on the core cast's fight against the empire. Read the first two issues and it's pretty good so far. A few really cool moments, and the characters are all written well and closely resemble their movie counterparts.
Also a Princess Leia mini-series but I haven't read any of it yet.
The one I'm most excited is the ongoing Darth Vader title. It focuses on how he goes from being Tarkin's bitch and even failing in that role by allowing the death star to be destroyed, to rising back up to the dominant position of power he was in, in Empire Strikes Back. Getting back in the Emperor's good graces and all that. It also goes into Vader's dealings with some of the seedier parts of the Star Wars universe like Jabba, and his association with Boba Fett(no disinigrations) I read the first issue and I loved it. Second should be out next week, and I can't wait.
Also, I should note that unlike the star wars comics of the past, all this is being treated as official canon, if you're the type of person who gives a shit about that kind of thing. I don't. Whatever I want to be canon IS canon, because that's how Fignuts rolls.
Anyway, give this stuff a shot. Especially the Vader comic.
