Bryan was always booked as an underdog and barely scraping by.
Cena taking an almost uncomfortable beating is different and meaningful. I love Daniel Bryan, but if Brock Lesnar came out and beat the shit out of Bryan for 20 minutes, it would have felt like a Raw match and wouldn't have meant shit because forty other guys did it this year. Brock has insane momentum and buzz because he dismantled the one man that for the better part of a decade hasn't been put down cleanly, let alone absolutely demolished, by basically any one.

I was merely asking because I see this lovefest for Cena getting destroyed and we all know it should have been Bryan there. I was curious to see if the reaction would be the same. Just remember, Bryan was booked as pretty much getting screwed over every month for like half a year then he finally conquers The Authority by winning at WM. Brock conquers The Streak. Obviously, it would have been Brock/Bryan here and if it was in his contract to get the belt at some point this year (I'd bet on that), my guess is that we would have seen the same thing. Cena is just there because Bryan got injured. I'm fine with Brock winning, but a 20 min one sided beat down fight with no added stips or gimmicks was IMO not the best way to handle it. I can easily see it being the same thing if Bryan was in the match. That I would have hated very much.
