In fairness, Pikachu is Pokémon's mascot and has been for like fifteen years now. Yoshi, far as I know, isn't a mascot. Mario is generally the mascot of the Mario franchise and normally Nintendo's mascot as well.
Now, I think the idea of Pokémon being even remotely obscure is rucking fetarded, but I think we're also comparing apples to oranges here.
