But the Mets have said they still aren't retiring his number. I'll never understand why they're so stingy about this. They haven't given 31 out since Piazza left. It's clear they're never going to give it out again...so just retire it. He's the best hitter you've ever had, you dummies.

Do they have some sort of requirement for retiring numbers?
The Red Sox themselves are pretty strict with their requirements since its both 10 years played on the team and be in the MLB Hall to get a number retired.
