Monday will be decision time for a lot of veterans who are in big league camp as minor league invites. Thanks to a provision in the new CBA, most of them have outs in their contracts where the team must either tell them they've made the Opening Day roster, give them $100,000 to go to the minors, or release them. The idea is to give them a week before the start of the season to sign with another team that may want to put them in the bigs.
LaTroy Hawkins and Pedro Feliciano are in that camp for the Mets. Hawkins appears to be a lock for the team. I was really rooting for Perpetual Pedro, but at this point I can't see him making it. The guys fastball is about 84-85 MPH at this point. Think they may go with Robert Carson instead as he's already on the 40 man roster.
Marlon Byrd and Scott Atchison don't have early decision provisions, but they both appear to be locks as well.
