Yeah, I believe the US will need run differential. The announcers were discussing the ending to yesterday's Italy game was somewhat controversial because as soon as they scored their 10th run to invoke the mercy rule, the other run that followed didn't count. Now in Italy's case a lot would have to go the wrong way for them not to advance anyway, but in theory the mercy rule could screw somebody over. It's not likely - but it could happen.
