The new Xbox will almost certainly have actual BD playing functionality. If Microsoft has any interest in setting themselves up as a full home entertainment setup (and let's face it, they've been pimping that more than games), they'd be fools to drop BD support even if they're still pushing their own VOD service and apps.

Nintendo does this sort of thing for cost cutting. Microsoft doesn't need to.

Anyway, tangent over, I'm skeptical about those claims, but the ideas aren't bad.
